RIZIN boss contacts Conor McGregor for ‘really weird’ sporting competition on New Year’s Eve

https://www.mmamania.com/2019/8/20/20823171/rizin-boss-conor-mcgregor-oscar-de-la-hoya-really-weird-sporting-competition-new-years-eve-mmaFormer Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) lightweight champion, Conor McGregor, is the biggest draw in mixed martial arts (MMA), so there’s zero chance that “Notorious” would compete for another organization without a co-promotion deal with the boys at Endeavor. That’s probably why RIZIN CEO, Nobuyuki Sakakibara, is cooking up something “really weird” for the “Notorious” Irishman on New Year’s Eve in Japan. Like a new type of competition that would not involve fighting or professional wrestling, according to Karaev_Fan, who confirmed the former PRIDE executive was “in contact” with McGregor. “We can do something together,” Sakakibara told Tokyo Sports about McGregor (via BJPenn.com). ”It’s quite strange, it’s a new innovation. I feel like creating a new competition that is different from mixed martial arts, kickboxing, and professional wrestling.” The big mystery for McGregor is whether or not he plans to return to the 155-pound title chase, a decision that may be made in the wake of UFC 242 next month in Abu Dhabi. Stephen A. Smith: The ’embarrassing’ Antonio Brown saga will be used against black players

https://ftw.usatoday.com/2019/08/antonio-brown-raiders-embarrassing-antics-stephen-a-smithAugust 20, 2019 1:05 pm Just when it seemed like Antonio Brown had found some stability amid a whirlwind offseason with the Raiders, the superstar wide receiver extended his helmet dispute with the NFL and filed a new grievance to the league, according to an ESPN report. The Raiders were hopeful over the weekend that Brown would soon be able to fully rejoin practice, but Brown desperately wants to be allowed to wear a helmet that does not meet current NFL safety standards. Brown has used a Schutt Air Advantage throughout his career, but the 2018 season was the final year Brown’s old helmet – which was manufactured before 2010 – would be eligible for use. Brown thought he had found a loophole that would allow him to wear a newer model of the same helmet that is less than 10 years old, but that model also did not pass the league’s safety tests. As the newer model helmet was not specifically banned when the NFL announced the list of prohibited helmets in 2018, Brown is now seeking an additional one-year grace period. “Brown believed last week that he had found a suitable replacement — a helmet manufactured within the past 10 years — but it did not meet additional testing parameters. Tom Brady shares funny message about his fantasy football clout

https://sportsnaut.com/2019/08/tom-brady-shares-funny-message-about-his-fantasy-football-clout/Tom Brady will likely be one of the highest-drafted quarterbacks in fantasy football this year, because he’s still one of the best in the business. But on Tuesday, the New England Patriots superstar sent a message to his fans on Twitter indicating that his stock should be even higher. Including a picture of himself catching a football, he wrote, “I know your drafts are coming up so I need to let all of you know I’m a PPR threat now.” We assume he actually did catch it, but that may be a bit too presumptuous given his history.
